Swings 

The swinging motion of a baby swing calms your baby to rest.  They are especially useful when you are running chores around the home, while your baby rests peacefully in their swing with toys, music and different vibrations.  Babies responds much to motion as it helps soothes them.  It's helpful to look for swings that also has other functions such as a rocker or a bouncer, that way you can easily bring the seat to any room of your home rather than moving the large cumbersome swing.  And keep in mind that it is important to understand all the funcitons the baby swing comes with as there are specific features that will benefit you and your baby in the long run.  If you plan to travel with your baby, find a baby swing that is portable and easy to transport.

Age requirement:

• From new born up to 6 months / or when your baby can push themselves up.  Most importantly, stick to the manufacturer's weight limit as well as instructions to set up the bouncer.

• It's important to select a swing with reclining options as infants are not able to keep their heads up as they are still growing / strengthening their neck muscles.  The reclining options are also a plus to help your baby sleep better without slouching.

• Depending on how long your baby would prefer the swing to move, you can choose between the longer lasting battery use compared to the wind-up which requires constant re-winding.  The benefit of choosing a battery operated swing is the extra features it comes with such as soothing music and variable speeds to the rocking.

Speed and Music Options

• A swing that has a few options of music and speed motion would be the best bet as each baby is different with their sleeping preferences.

• Never leave your baby unattended in a swing.
• Never carry the swing with your baby inside of it.
• Never use the swing if there are missing parts or damaged.
• Always keep the swing on the ground and safe from dangerous hazards around the house such as extra toys, electrical outlets/chords, drapes and any potential falling items. 
• A safe baby swing would be one that is hard to tip over if the baby manages to lean out in a certain angle.  Make sure the swing you purchase has a wide base and a low center of gravity for a solid foundation. 
• A harness must be used at all times for your baby, a 3-point harness is acceptable, but a 5-point harness would always be a better option. 
• Make sure the baby swing has no sharp edges.
• If your are using a used baby swing, it's important to research the up to date safety standards under ASTM. We recommend JPMA Products certified products. And always be on alert for recall baby products, see www.cpsc.gov.
• Based from the American Academy of Pediatrics, babies may be prone to positional plagiocephaly (flattened head syndrome - a persistent flat spot in the back or on one side of the head) if they spend prolonged periods of time in a swing/bouncer/car seat.  We recommend a maximum of 30 minutes per sitting, and should alternate between carrying the baby and spending some time on the baby's stomach.
