Play Yards 

Play yards are a one of a kind baby product that provides all the functions a new born requires.  One of the most popular usages parents enjoy is to use it as a bassinet in their bedroom beside the bed for night time feedings and monitoring.  During the day the play yard can be a safe place for the baby to play with their toys and rest.  And with some play yards having the extra function of including a changing table, you are pretty much set in purchasing baby products for your infant.  If you travel quite a bit, check for the play yard's portability and if it includes a carrying case or has wheels to move from room to room.

Age requirement:

• Bassinet:  From new born up to usually 3 months (15 lbs) / or when your baby can sit up unassisted, roll over or push up on hands and knees (whichever comes first).
• Changing Table:  Usually between 15-25 lbs (25 inches in height) or up to 4 months old (whichever comes first).
• Play Yard:  Usually up to 35 inches in height or 30 lbs (whichever comes first).
• Most importantly, stick to the manufacturer's weight and height limit as well as the instructions to set up the Play Yard.
• Follow the occupant guideline, do not put more than one baby in the play yard if it's only designed for one.

Safety Precautions:

• Never leave your baby unattended in a Play Yard.
• Never use the Play Yard if there are missing parts or damaged.
• Never carry the Play Yard with your baby inside of it.
• Always keep the Play Yard on the ground and safe from dangerous hazards around the house such as extra toys, electrical outlets/chords, drapes and any potential falling items. 
• Make sure the Play Yard has no sharp edges.
• When using the Bassinet, lay your baby on their back.
• When using the changing table, always keep one hand on your baby and use the 3/5-point harness.
• When your baby is using the Play Yard, remove the bassinet and changing station as those can be a strangulation hazard.
• When your baby can stand (even by leaning), do not keep large toys / objects in the play yard as they step onto it to climb out.
• If you must use a sheet, make sure it's a tight fitting sheet.  Do not use over-sized sheets.
• If your are using a used Play Yard, it's important to research the up to date safety standards under ASTM. We recommend JPMA Products certified products. And always be on alert for recall baby products, see www.cpsc.gov. 
• Be sure to check the play yard's floor pad, it should be included by the manufacturer that is no more than 1 inch thick (snug fit) and firm enough to avoid your baby from rolling into the loose mesh pocket (between the floor panel's edge and play yard's side mesh).  Safer models would include velcro strips (accessible only outside the play yard) to secure the mattress from being lifted up by the baby.  Mesh holes should also be smaller than 1/4 inch.
